An All-New Garfield Movie Romps Onto DVD Aug. 5th

Posted in Press Releases on July 19th, 2008

CENTURY CITY, Calif. – Hold onto your lasagna! Everyone’s favorite morning-loathing, Odie-taunting, tart-tongued tabby is back for a slew of hilarious new antics in Garfield’s Fun Fest, his newest full-length computer animated feature film, coming to DVD Aug. 5 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  Written by creator Jim Davis — Garfield, Odie, Jon, Arlene and the rest of the gang – yes, Nermal, too – are gearing up for the town’s annual talent show, Fun Fest.  Having won every year, Garfield is convinced he can’t loose, especially with his long-time sidekick Arlene in tow.  But when Arlene steps out with another partner, Garfield – not one for solo performances – sets out with Odie on a quest to regain his lost humor mojo and get the funny back before show time.

Now celebrating his 30th Anniversary, Garfield is one of the most beloved and enduring icons with the most widely syndicated comic strips in the world – 263 million readers and counting – and more than nine million DVDs sold to date.  Garfield’s Fun Fest, for ages 6-12, includes an exclusive comic booklet by Jim Davis, DVD-ROM games “Destination Fun Fest” and “Tango Toss” and more, and will be available for the suggested retail price of $19.98 U.S. / $21.98 Canada.  Pre-book is July 9.  Additional information on Garfield’s Fun Fest can also be found at http://www.garfield.com/d2v/funfest/index.html.

Presented by Paws, Incorporated and in association with The Animation Picture Company/Davis Entertainment, Garfield’s Fun Fest, like its successful predecessor Garfield Gets Real (now available on DVD) was executively produced and written by Garfield creator Jim Davis, directed by Mark A.Z. Dippe, co-directed by Kyung Ho Lee and produced by John Davis and Brian Manis.  Garfield’s Fun Fest is a Paws, Incorporated Production in association with Wonderworld Studios.

SYNOPSIS:
Garfield, long-running champion of the Fun Fest talent show, believes he can’t lose.  Problem is, his sidekick (and girlfriend) Arlene wants to change the act.  When Garfield refuses, Arlene hooks up with a suave, narcissistic newcomer, Ramon, for a show-stopping Tango.  Not one for solo performances, Garfield loses his humor mojo!  With hours ticking away till showtime, Garfield, with pal Odie in tow, sets out to find the Holy Grail of Guffaws — the magic pond of funny water within the Mystical Forest he read about in a fairy tale storybook.  On a journey filled with riddles, jokes, quirky characters and a comedy guru (Freddy the Frog, the very first funny…anything!), can Garfield learn the lessons of true comedy and make it back in time to capture first prize and win Arlene back?

DVD SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Exclusive Comic Booklet By Jim Davis

“Holly Jolly Kids Christmas” CD Features Original Holiday Classics

Posted in Press Releases on July 14th, 2008

For Immediate Release

“A Holly Jolly Kids Christmas” FEATURES
THE ORIGINAL CLASSIC RECORDINGS THAT BRING SMILES TO CHILDREN’S FACES

“Jingle Bell Rock,” “Frosty The Snowman,” “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer,” “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,”
“All I Want For Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth)” And More

Los Angeles (July 14, 2008)—Under this year’s Christmas tree is a holiday album that puts the merry back into Christmas for the whole family.  Introducing the original recordings of Yuletide classics to a new generation, A Holly Jolly Kids Christmas (Hip-O/UMe), is from the Universal Music Family series.  Presented in eco-packs that are 100% recyclable, A Holly Jolly Kids Christmas is kid friendly, parent friendly, and earth friendly.

The album’s 11 selections are among the most popular and most fun songs adults and children have ever enjoyed at Christmastime.  The songs are as fresh as they are timeless, with a handful becoming hits once again in the last couple of years, though on new charts–Ringtones and Digital.

Taking its title from legendary folksinger Burl Ives’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” the album includes that track which went Top 15 Pop in 1964 and Top 40 Digital in 2005.  “Jingle Bell Rock” from Bobby Helms was Top 15 Country in 1957, Top 10 Pop in 1958 and Top 10 Ringtone in 2006.  Little Miss Dynamite Brenda Lee scored in 1960 with the Top 15 “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” and again in 2005 when her recording went Top 25 Digital.  And decades after comedian Jimmy Durante departed the pop consciousness, his “Frosty The Snowman” was a Top 10 Ringtone hit in 2006.

A Holly Jolly Kids Christmas also features Spike Jones’ #1 Pop smash from 1948, “All I Want for Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth),” and Ella Fitzgerald’s take on “Jingle Bells” from the 1960 album Ella Wishes You A Swinging Christmas.  On the novelty side are “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late),” the 1958 cut from The Chipmunks of Alvin, Simon and Theodore that spent four weeks at #1, and Elmo & Patsy’s “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer,” which charted #1 Pop in 1983 and then Top 50 Country in 2000.

The Jackson 5 remade “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” in 1970 for Michael, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Jackie’s #1 Pop Jackson 5 Christmas Album.  The most recent recording on A Holly Jolly Kids Christmas is Raul Malo’s 2007 performance of the pre-1950s gem “Marshmallow World.”

The album concludes, appropriately, with Ives’ “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.”  That song has headlined an animated TV special enjoyed by every generation since its 1964 premiere, much as the other songs on A Holly Jolly Kids Christmas have brought joy to every generation who has heard them.

Travel to Central American with All-New “Families of Costa Rica” DVD

Posted in Press Releases on July 14th, 2008
‘Families of Costa Rica’

Travel to Central America in Newest Title of

Award-Winning Families of the World DVD Series

Available Nationwide August 19, 2008 from Master Communications

CINCINNATI (July 14, 2008) – No passport required! Just sit back, relax and spend some time with two friendly families in Costa Rica without ever leaving your living room in Families of Costa Rica, the latest title in the multi-award-winning Families of the World DVD series, which continues to explore the lives and cultures of children around the world.

The series – 19 titles and growing – offers a documentary-style “day in the life” glimpse into how people in different countries live from a child’s point of view.  Families of Costa Rica will be available on DVD August 19, 2008 for a suggested retail price of $29.95. The entire Families of the World catalog is also available on DVD with many titles being broadcast on select PBS stations around the country and around the world.

In Families of Costa Rica, we are invited into the lives of two families, one rural and one urban, and follow them in their daily activities from waking to bedtime, all the while showing that kids living thousands of miles away in other countries lead everyday lives and participate in daily activities very similar to American children.

Ten-year-old Estibaliz is a happy little girl growing up in Cabuya, which is very close to a national nature reserve and has a thriving ecotourism business.  Her day begins very early with a few morning activities including breakfast (tortillas, eggs and hot dogs) and some last minute homework.  While her mother works as a housekeeper and her father as a groundskeeper for a local hotel, Estibaliz attends private school, studying English, geography, science, math and history.  She enjoys eating lunch with her friends and playing in the school band.  After school, Estibaliz does chores, including picking up fallen mangoes from the yard and feeding them to the neighboring cows.  The following day, we accompany her and her family to an island cemetery to visit her grandmother’s grave, then enjoy evening soccer games and a local dance before settling in for bed.

Later, we meet 10-year-old José, who lives in Escazu, close to the capital city of San Jose, with his parents and three-year-old brother Gabriel.  José also starts his day early, enjoying an egg sandwich for breakfast, followed by Bible study with his father (they’re Evangelical Christians), then it’s off to private school for him as well. Because his family is building a new home, the trip to school includes a stop to borrow his grandfather’s truck to pick up construction supplies.  At school, classes include science, art, computers and math.  After lessons, José participates in soccer practice.  Upon returning home, he walks his dog Sophie, plays music with his brother and does his homework, which includes writing an essay on what he wants to be when he grows up – a professional soccer player for Team Barcelona!  Then it’s off for a well-earned good night’s sleep.

School Library Journal applauds Families of the World as “excellent,” providing “an intriguing taste of another culture.”  The series, which has garnered repeated acclaim and awards from Oppenheim Toy Portfolio, Parents’ Choice and NAPPA (National Parenting Publications of America) as well as endorsements from KIDS FIRST! and recommendations from Dr. Toy’s Children’s Products, is used in classrooms around the country as a valuable tool for multi-cultural education.

Families of the World is recommended for ages 5-11.  The series features families in Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Ghana, India, Israel, Japan, Korea, Mexico (includes Spanish and English soundtrack), Puerto Rico, Russia, Sweden, Thailand, the USA, the United Kingdom, Vietnam and Canada.  To order, call 1-800-765-5885 or visit www.familiesoftheworld.com.

New DVD Series for Early Learners Launches with “Meet the Sight Words”

Posted in Press Releases on July 14th, 2008

It’s Back-to-School with the ‘Sight Words’

New DVD Series for Early Learners Launches with

“Meet the Sight Words 1
“Meet the Sight Words 2
“Meet the Sight Words 3

Available on DVD August 12, 2008 from

 Multi-Award-Winning Preschool Prep Company

DANVILLE, CA (July 14, 2008)—Identifying “sight words” has never been easier thanks to Meet the Sight Words, a new animated DVD series for early learners that engages young eyes with simple, striking visuals. . “Meet the Sight Words 1,” “Meet the Sight Words 2” and “Meet the Sight Words 3” will be available nationwide just in time for back-to-school on August 12, 2008 for a suggested retail price of $14.95 each.

Produced by the multi-award-winning Preschool Prep Company, founded by Kathy Oxley, Meet the Sight Words DVD series is a powerful tool that teaches children ages 15 months to 6 years to identify over forty five basic sight words.  ‘Sight Words’ are common words that can’t be identified by picture cues or don’t follow basic decoding rules.  These words are taught in pre-k and kindergarten classrooms as “sight words,” "instant words,” “high frequency words” or “star words.”  A new reader finds sight words very frustrating until they are memorized.  A good reader will be able to instantly recognize sight words without having to ‘figure them out.’

The Preschool Prep Company sight words list combines words from the most commonly used kindergarten lists such as Fry Instant Words (Instant Words determined by Fry, Kress and Found in the Reading Teachers Book of List, Fourth Edition ©2000 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.), Dolch Words (prepared in 1936 by E.W. Dolch) and Houghton Mifflin High Frequency Words (Houghton Mifflin Reading, California Teachers Edition copyright ©2003 by Houghton Mifflin Company).

Preschool Prep Company continues to develop tools that help educate children in their early years. Preschool Prep Company makes learning sight words fun and easy by implementing the same research based echnique used in their other award-winning DVDs.  “Now children can master sight words with the same rapid speed that they learned letters, numbers, shapes and colors,” said Oxley.  “Our earlier released DVDs are used in thousands of preschools and daycare facilities with fantastic results.  Meet the Sight Words takes us into the kindergarten classroom with results that are proving effective across multiple ages and learning abilities.  Children with special needs have had tremendous success with the whole series taking them to levels of learning that their parents didn’t know were possible.”

Scholastic Instructor Magazine chose the new Meet the Sight Words series as one of their “Teachers Picks.”  The Old Schoolhouse Magazine “highly recommends” the series saying “This DVD is an animated teaching tool, not a cartoon show.”

Previously released DVDs from Preschool Prep, “Meet the Letters,” “Meet the Shapes” and “Meet the Colors” have already won over 25 national awards including, Dr. Toy’s 10 Best Educational Products Award, Dr. Toys 100 Best Children’s Products Award, the Film Advisory Board’s Award of Excellence, the Family Choice Award, the iParenting Media Award, Creative Child Magazines DVD of the Year Award for both 2006 and 2007 and the Dove Foundation Seal of Approval.  Books in the series include award winning lift-the-flap and board books.  Later this year the company will release a series of Sight Words Easy Reader™ Books.

In 2004, Preschool Prep Company conducted a study to show parents that babies can easily learn letters while they are learning to talk.  Participants ranging from 12 months to 4 years of age watched Meet the Letters DVD over a two month period.   Many learned their letters in less than two weeks.  By the end of the study, 90% had complete upper and lowercase recognition.

About Shawn Brown
Originally from Chicago, Shawn Brown joined the US Air Force and along with his military duties, entertained the troops as a featured performer in numerous Air Force showcases and military talent shows throughout the United States and Europe.  He moved to Los Angeles in the 1980’s where he worked as a standup comic at popular clubs performing a unique act that combined original music, rap and impersonations.  In 1985, he wrote, produced and performed the huge novelty hit “The Rappin Duke" song, as a tribute to the late, great John Wayne.  Following on the heels of this mega-seller, Shawn toured as the opening act for several popular groups including New Edition and Stevie Wonder and went on to became a morning DJ for radio station KDKS in Shreveport, Louisiana.  He continued his career as a morning drive announcer in Cincinnati, Ohio until he began writing comedy "bits" for nationally syndicated radio super jocks Tom Joyner and Doug Banks. After returning to Chicago he continued working as a comedian and pursuing comedy writing while attending Chicago State University.   He performed regularly with a group of Chicago notable comics which included Bernie Mac and Adele Givens.
